Golden Milk

Golden Milk Recipe

To make one mug:

300ml milk (dairy or coconut/almond)

½ tsp turmeric powder

1/8 tsp cinnamon powder or 1 x cinnamon stick

1/8 tsp ginger powder or 2 x slices (1cm thick) fresh ginger

pinch of cardamom powder or 1 x cardmom pod, cracked

pinch of black pepper

1-2 tsp of honey or maple syrup

½ tsp ghee/coconut oil (optional)

  1. Heat the milk in a sauce pan with the dry ingredients. Bring to a simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavours to combine.

  2. Take off the heat and mix in the sweeter and ghee/oil if using (adding the fat improves the absorption of the spices and helps nourish the body).

Notes:

I prefer to use the non-powdered options where available as it makes for a less gritty drink, however, when using all powdered, it can help to pour into a mug through a sieve.

To prepare a batch, simply increase all the dry ingredients in ratio to each other, making sure to opt for powdered cinnamon cardomom and ginger. Then add a small tsp of the mixture each time you want to make a mug, following the instructions as above.

You can amend the quantities as per your taste and experiment with other spices such as clove or star anise.
